dc.description.abstract This paper focuses on the modification of the existing layout of a rubberised coir mattress factory using two different approaches viz SLP (Systematic Layout Planning) and graph theory. The preliminary problem identification and the relevant data have been obtained based on primary data and the secondary data collected from the production unit. The quantitative as well as qualitative data have been used for the purpose. The results obtained by using the two approaches are compared in terms of the comparative parameters say, total distance between departments, total distance travelled per day and material handling cost reduction. It has been found that the Graph Theory modified layout could yield highest reduction in all the three comparative parameters, say total distance between departments by 3.5%, total distance travelled per day by 0.1% and material handling cost by 1.06%. en_US
