VEHICLE ALCOHOL AND ACCIDENT DETECTION WITH AUTOMATIC WARNING SYSTEM USING GSM MODEM

Abstract

Nowadays accidents due to drunken driving and death due to delay of getting first aid and hospitalization after accident are common. Our mission of this project is to identify the presence of alcohol from driver side and inform owner (in the case of rented vehicle) / police control room / KSRTC control room (In the case of KSRTC buses) about this. Thus owner / Police can access the ignition control of the vehicle from a remote place and can switch on/off the vehicle through mobile phone. It reduces the chance of occurring accidents due to the drunken driver. The system also informs if any accident occurs on the vehicle. The main parts of this project are microcontroller (8051), GSM, Alcohol sensor and vibration / shock sensor. Microcontroller is the heart of this project. Alcohol and shock sensor outputs are given to the microcontroller. Microcontroller monitors these inputs continuously. If any abnormal condition (like the presence of Alcohol more than a preset level) occurs inside the vehicle, the system informs the police / owner about this by sending SMS automatically. The message is send using GSM modem through GSM network. The controller communicates with the GSM modem via AT commands through MAX 232 interface. Thus owner / Police can access the ignition control of the vehicle from a remote place and can switch on/off the vehicle through mobile phone by sending an SMS. This is accompanied with an alarm. And if any accident occurs, it is detected by the shock sensor and automatically send accident message to the police / owner.
